End-of-Year Book Tag

Time for another book tag! It's getting pretty close to the end of the year, which means that it's the perfect time for this wrapping-things-up tag. I also did this tag last year, but I think it's a great thing to do every year!
Are there any books you've started this year that you need to finish?
There are quite a few, especially ones that I've put down for who knows how long, but the two that I'm really planning on are THE ICE CREAM QUEEN OF ORCHARD STREET and MORE THAN WE CAN TELL.

Do you have an autumnal/wintery book to transition into the end of the year?
I was struggling to think of something for this, but then I remembered that I have TOIL & TROUBLE! It's a perfect anthology that I have to read before Halloween.

Is there a new release you're still waiting for?
Some of my most anticipated books of the year still haven't been released! PULP, THE RESOLUTIONS, and THE DISASTERS are all coming up in the next two months.

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?
These books fall into three different categories: ECHO AFTER ECHO is an old ARC that I still haven't read, YOU ASKED FOR PERFECT is a new ARC that I want to read well before release date, and THE SHEPHERD'S CROWN is a book that I've been putting off reading for years. I think it's finally time for me to finish the Discworld series.

Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favorite book of the year?
There's nothing that I'm absolutely expecting to be a new favorite, but I have very high hopes for THE LADY'S GUIDE TO PETTICOATS AND PIRACY by Mackenzi Lee. I'm not totally sure that I'll get to it before the end of the year, but based on how much I loved Felicity in the first book, I'm definitely going to enjoy it.

Have you already started making reading plans for 2019?
My only plan so far is to make a very low Goodreads goal, because I have not done too well on this year's so far. And according to my post last year, this is the goal I set in order to not have any end-of-the-year panic. Ha!
How is your reading year going? Tell me in the comments!

Thoughts on Required Reading

This blog post is brought to you by Pride and Prejudice and my AP Lit class. I've been thinking a lot about required reading, probably because I'm having to do so much of it. School comes with many types of required reading. Today, I won't be talking about reading excerpts from textbooks on various subjects, because I think everyone agrees that unless the subject is of particular interest, those readings are boring at best and painful at worst. Instead, I'm talking about being required to read entire works of literature (or, less often, nonfiction). During winter break this year, I was required to read Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice . I thought that this would be one of my easiest assignments ever. I LOVE that book. I read it for fun two summers ago and could barely put it down! I was expecting wonderful days curled up on the couch with a mug of hot chocolate, enjoying the chance to revisit one of my favorite novels while still being productive. Best of all...

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and Bookish. This week's theme: Top Ten Underrated/Hidden Gem Books You've Read in the Past Year or So. One of my favorite things to do is get other people to read books I love. That way, I can discuss the boo ks with them, and if I know their tastes well enough, I know I'm givin g them something that they'll love! Unfortunately, I can't do this with the entire world. And that means that there are books that I've really enjoyed t hat just aren't widely loved. Why ? I don't know. And that's why I spend so much time trying to get other people to read them. Here are ten books I've read some what recently that I think really deserve some m ore lo ve. IRON CAST by Destiny Soria: I'll never get tired of diverse books, I 'll never get tired of historical fiction, and I'll never get tired of positive female friendships. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and the Bookish. This week's theme: Top Ten 2016 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn't Get To (But TOTALLY plan to) So, as you may have noticed, I only posted once last week. My plan for 2017 to be completely on schedule is off to a GREAT start. But it's not going to happen again! I have plans, and I'm going to stick to them. And one misstep shouldn't mean I give up on the whole goal! So here's to the rest of 2017 being completely on schedule. Anyway, moving on to posts that are on schedule - top ten Tuesday! This was a pretty easy topic - I never get around to all of the books that I want to. I'd say that the I read the most releases from any given year in the next year, so I'm sure I'll be reading plenty of 2016 releases this year. Here are the ten that I'm most excited about! THIS SAVAGE SONG by Victoria Schwab (Monsters of Verity #1): I've been saying that this book ...
