My Favorite Book Covers

We all say "don't judge a book by its cover"...but we all do a little bit. Some of us more than others, but I don't think I've ever met a reader who isn't at least a little put off by a horrible cover.

I'm one of those people who isn't hugely swayed by covers. I've definitely never bought a book entirely because of its cover, and there are plenty of covers that I just have no reaction whatsoever to, but there are some covers that are so great that they make even me react. So I wanted to do a post dedicated to those! Because we all deserve to take some time to stare at gorgeous things.


I'LL GIVE YOU THE SUN by Jandy Nelson: The computer screen really doesn't really do justice to this one. When I read it, I swear I spent so much time just staring at the cover every time I went to open the book.

TEN THOUSAND SKIES ABOVE YOU by Claudia Gray: This whole trilogy has such amazing covers! This one's my favorite, though. I love the colors, and the Eiffel Tower and the Golden Gate Bridge.

THE MARVELS by Brian Selznick: I love all of the little details on this one! The whole book is beautiful, with all the illustrations inside, but the cover is one of my favorites.

THE NAMES THEY GAVE US by Emery Lord: I didn't fully appreciate this one until after I'd read the book. The colors were always beautiful, but the tree got an extra meaning after reading, and that made the whole cover even more gorgeous.

LIKE A RIVER GLORIOUS by Rae Carson: Another trilogy with absolutely gorgeous covers! The gold accents on this one are so perfect. And the color of the sky, and the reflections in the water, and the the font, and just everything!

    These are all some of my favorites as well! I also really love the covers for the Illuminae trilogy :D

      Those are so great! I feel like they're a lot better in person, though, especially since you can take the dustjacket off.

    I lovee the covers for the Firebird trilogy, even though I still haven't read them. And The Marvels' cover is the best. I've definitely bought books because their covers are pretty, though usually that's when the books are on sale haha. I think one of my favourite covers at the moment is Zen Cho's Sorcerer to the Crown, especially the black edition!

      I'd highly recommend the Firebird trilogy - the worldbuilding is about as beautiful as the covers! And I'd never seen the cover of Sorcerer to the Crown before, but I just looked it up and it's gorgeous!

Thoughts on Required Reading

This blog post is brought to you by Pride and Prejudice and my AP Lit class. I've been thinking a lot about required reading, probably because I'm having to do so much of it. School comes with many types of required reading. Today, I won't be talking about reading excerpts from textbooks on various subjects, because I think everyone agrees that unless the subject is of particular interest, those readings are boring at best and painful at worst. Instead, I'm talking about being required to read entire works of literature (or, less often, nonfiction). During winter break this year, I was required to read Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice . Ten Books I Need More People to Love

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and Bookish. This week's theme: Top Ten Underrated/Hidden Gem Books You've Read in the Past Year or So. One of my favorite things to do is get other people to read books I love. Ten 2016 Releases I Didn't Get To (But TOTALLY Plan To)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and the Bookish. This week's theme: Top Ten 2016 Releases I Meant To Read But Didn't Get To (But TOTALLY plan to) So, as you may have noticed, I only posted once last week.
