Ten Books I Wouldn't Mind Getting for Chanukah

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and the Bookish. This week's theme: Top Ten Books You Wouldn't Mind Santa Leaving Under Your Tree (with a slight alteration).

I'm probably one of the easiest people to shop for. If you have the link to my Goodreads, you're basically guaranteed to get me something I'll like. (And even if you don't, I'm really not hard to please.) But, of course, there are some books that I'm more excited for than others. Here are ten that I would be absolutely thrilled to get as gifts this year.


GEMINA by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff: The more I think about how great this book is going to be, the more I want it. And it's so pretty!

P.S. I LIKE YOU by Kasie West: I love Kasie West! Her contemporaries are all so adorable - I can't believe I haven't read this one yet.

THE SECRET KEEPERS by Trenton Lee Stewart: Finally, another book from the author of my favorite middle grade series ever! I'm not even sure what this is about but I want it.

TALES FROM THE SHADOWHUNTER ACADEMY by Cassandra Clare: It's been way too long since I read a Shadowhunters book! Apparently I should read this before Lady Midnight- and let's be real, I'll never say no to more Simon.

THIS SAVAGE SONG by Victoria Schwab: Remember when I was going to buy this and read it over the summer? That didn't happen, but I still REALLY want to read it!

HAMILTON: THE REVOLUTION by Lin-Manuel Miranda: I love Hamilton, and this book looks amazing. I got to flip through my friend's copy a while back and it just made me want it more.

THE KISS OF DECEPTION by Mary E. Pearson: I feel like I'm the last person who hasn't read this series - so if someone gets me the first book, I can finally start it!

THE MARVELS by Brian Selznick: I've already read this one, and it instantly became an all-time favorite. I really want a copy, but it's just so expensive! And I find it really hard to justify spending so much money on a book I've already read when there are so many I haven't.

RED QUEEN by Victoria Aveyard: Another series that I'm super behind on. I've heard mixed things, but I really want to give it a try. Maybe I'll catch up before the next release!

HARRY POTTER SERIES by J.K. Rowling: Is putting a whole series cheating? But I really want my own copy of these. The ones I have are technically my mom's and she's made it very clear that she's not giving them up.

    This Savage Song was AMAZING! Of course Hamilton: The Revolution was nothing short of amazing either. I learned a lot about the musical, but it was still so fun to read! Red Queen was really good, too. Not the best, but still good. I read my sister's copies of HP too, but she's never actually going to read them, so...? I've just kept them to myself. I really want to read Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy though. I read the first short story, but I didn't keep going because I'm not a huge ebook fan and I knew it was coming out in a physical copy eventually.

      I've heard so many amazing things about This Savage Song! I can't believe I haven't read it yet! And Hamilton: The Revolution looks AMAZING. As for Harry Potter, if your sister's really never going to read them, I'd say they're basically yours already! I had the same problem with Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy - I didn't want to have so many separate ebooks when I knew I'd want to read them all at once anyway! I did the same thing for the Bane Chronicles.

    Oooh, I'd love to own a full set of Harry Potter so I hear you there!! They're the kind of books everyone needs to have their own private sets of, right?! ;D And This Savage Song = šŸ˜ šŸ˜I hope you get to read that one soon!

      Exactly! I really want my own set of Harry Potter books to reread whenever I want. And the new paperback editions are so pretty - the spines make a picture of Hogwarts and I need it.

    I loved PS I like you. Kasie West is amazing. I love how her books appear effortless and well thought out at the same time. She is publishing 2 books this year *squeels*

      I'm so excited for the new books! I've absolutely loved all of her contemporaries so far, so I'm sure they'll be wonderful.

    I saw The Marvels in a bookshop and it was soooo pretty, but I have resisted so far.

      You should definitely read it! Maybe get it from the library - that's what I did, because that book is EXPENSIVE - but it's definitely worth your time.

February Wrap-Up

I'm gonna be honest here : February's been rough. I'm surprised that I g ot a whole month's worth of posts up. I can 't really go into all the details right now, but the biggest thing is that I've had a migraine for almost two month s now and it's really getting in the way of me doing things. My Ten Most Disappointing Reads

As I've read more books, I've generally gotten better at telling whether I'm going to like a book before I read it. Sometimes, though, books trick me - I look at them, think I'm going to love them, and then I don't. That really annoys me, but it makes for good post material - basically, this whole post is going to be me venting about books I really wanted to love. THE WINNER'S CURSE by Marie Rutkoski: I heard so many great things about this series - I still do - and I just don't get it. Thoughts on Required Reading, Part 2

Last year, I did a post about my thoughts on required reading. This is a rough follow-up to that. It's that time of year again - the start of a new semester! I know my school starts later than most, so if you're a student, you've probably already started. But I just started my classes a couple of days ago...which explains why my Friday post is going up on a day that's definitely not Friday. (Oh, well.) It also means that it's the perfect time to talk about required reading again. Quick recap of the last post: I was required to reread PRIDE AND PREJUDICE , which I'd originally read on my own and loved, and hated it.
