Ten Books I Really Should've Read By Now

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and the Bookish. This week's theme: ten books that have been on your shelf/TBR since before you started blogging that you still haven't read.

One of my first blog posts was a Top Ten Tuesday. That one was Ten Books I CAN'T BELIEVE I Haven't Read Yet - I've read three of those books since then, but considering there were about 50 books that I could have put on that list in the first place, I'm nowhere near short on books for this week's theme. I didn't include any books from that list here...but I'm still ashamed of the ones I haven't read yet. So here's ten MORE books that I somehow haven't gotten around to yet!

BETWEEN SHADES OF GRAY by Ruta Sepetys: I've been meaning to read this book for years, and now that I've read both of Ruta Sepetys's other books and liked them, I feel even worse about not picking this up!

SECOND CHANCE SUMMER by Morgan Matson: I was originally hesitant about this because I wasn't sure how I felt about Morgan Matson - I loved one book, and was pretty indifferent towards another. But then I read The Unexpected Everything, and - big shocker, if you've read anything on my blog lately - I LOVED IT. So I need to read this and catch up on everything Morgan Matson.

DOROTHY MUST DIE by Danielle Paige: I wanted to read this book from when it was released. Now the series is finished (I think?), not to mention all the novellas, and I still haven't read it. Shame.

CONSPIRACY OF BLOOD AND SMOKE by Anne Blankman: I'm feeling especially ashamed about this one right now because I just returned it to the library without reading it...for the second time. That's pretty awful, especially considering that I loved the first book. I know I'll read this sometime, but I honestly can't believe I haven't read it yet.

AS YOU WISH by Cary Elwes: The Princess Bride is one of my favorite movies ever, so I knew I had to read this book as soon as I heard of it. It was one of my top priority books and I don't even know what happened.

THE UNBECOMING OF MARA DYER by Michelle Hodkin: I'm roughly the last person in the bookish world to read this series, and I don't even have a reason for not reading it yet. It sounds so interesting! It's a series I can binge-read, which I love doing! But I haven't done that.

DAUGHTERS UNTO DEVILS by Amy Lukavics: This isn't a book that I've heard much about, but it sounds like exactly my kind of book. I love creepy historical books, and the Goodreads description for this one got me really interested. But I haven't read it!

SNOW LIKE ASHES by Sara Raasch: If I put this off much longer, I'll be able to marathon the series! It sounds like such a creative concept for a fantasy world, and I've heard a lot of good things about it, but I haven't gotten to it.

THESE BROKEN STARS by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner: I'd heard really good things about this book, so it was always on my radar, but it wasn't until I read Illuminae (also co-authored by Amie Kaufman) that I knew I had to get to this.

THE QUEEN OF THE TEARLING by Erika Johanssen: I've pretty much run out of ways to say that I'm disappointed in myself that I haven't read a book, but here's the last one.

What's a book that you're ashamed you haven't read yet? Do we have any in common? Which one of these should I make my top priority? Tell me in the comments!

  1. Ahh, I understand the shamed feeling of having not read so many books!😂 ME TOO. Like, I read hundreds of books a year, but yet I always constantly still feel behind?! WHAT IS WITH THIS. *collapses in a puddle of shrieking*

I do think These Broken Stars, Mara Dyer, and Dorothy Must Die are amazing. But I'm ashamed of myself from not having read Between Shades of Grey yet either.😂 OR Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke. That one is the sequel right? Eeek. I'm so bad. I should've read it by now WHAT IS EVEN WITH MY LIFE PRIORITIES.

    1. We're in the same boat there. I thought that when I read more books, I'd get more ahead on my TBR! But nooo, it just means that I discover MORE amazing-looking books to read and then I've been crushed under the weight of all of them.

I'm glad I'm not the last person to read Between Shades of Grey! It was beginning to feel like that. And yeah, Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke is the sequel, and I don't know whether that makes it better or worse - I'm almost sure that I'll like it after the first book, which means I REALLY should've read it by now, but at least I read the first book, right?

  3. I'm like you, there are a few books on this list I really should have read by now. I can recommend Second Chance Summer, I really enjoyed that even if it isn't my favourite Matson book. As for the rest? I don't know why I've not read Queen of the Tearling yet, I've had it on my shelf for about two years. I don't know what's wrong with me.

    1. I'm glad that I'm not the last person in the world to read The Queen of the Tearling! It seems like I've been hearing amazing things from absolutely everybody, so it's good to know that I'm not alone.

Wow, it's been ages since I've done a most anticipated list! In case you were wondering, my excitement for upcoming books is a s high as ever. It was so hard narrowing this list down to just ten, but I think I figured out the ten books that I'm most excited for in the first half of next year! I have a good mix of sequels and standalones (but onl y one debut, so there won't b e a lo t of overlap wi th the de buts TTT in a few weeks). Here are some of the books that I just can't contain my excitement about : OUR OWN PRIVATE UNIVERSE by Robin Talley - January 31: I love Robin Talley, and this book sounds like it's going to be so good! And it's going to have so much intersectionality! And the colors on that cover are just so aesthetically pleasing. DREAMLAND BURNING by Jennifer Latham - February

Ten Books I Need More People to Love

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and Bookish. This week's theme: Top Ten Underrated/Hidden Gem Books You've Read in the Past Year or So. One of my favorite things to do is get other people to read books I love. That way, I can discuss the boo ks with them, and if I know their tastes well enough, I know I'm givin g them something that they'll love! Unfortunately, I can't do this with the entire world. And that means that there are books that I've really enjoyed t hat just aren't widely loved. Why ? I don't know. And that's why I spend so much time trying to get other people to read them. Here are ten books I've read some what recently that I think really deserve some m ore lo ve. IRON CAST by Destiny Soria: I'll never get tired of diverse books, I 'll never get tired of historical fiction, and I'll never get tired of positive female friendships. When you pu t those all together, they ma ke a book tha

In Which I Consider My Ideal Post Length

I seem to be constantly going back and forth between having too many post ideas and not having enough. The thing is, though, that when I don't have a lot of ideas, it usually just means that I don't think I have enough to say about anything to actually make a post. Which poses an interesting question: how long do posts need to be? In particular, I'm thinking about discussion posts. I have a lot of bookish things I want to discuss, and discussion posts seem like one of the best ways to share my thoughts. But sometimes, my thoughts aren't fully-formed, or aren't that complex. I usually shy away from writing about those ideas because I don't think I have enough material to justify a post. But why don't I think I have enough? I've been a little behind on wr iting posts in advance, so it seem ed like I was running into th is question more and more often. And after a while of thinking about that, I had m y little breakthrough : I'm thinking a
