Top Ten Summery Reads

Happy summer! I'm still getting used to the fact that I'm on break - last year, I wouldn't have been on break for almost another month! But I plan to take full advantage of having more time off, especially since I don't have to do any summer work for my classes next semester.

One of my favorite things about summer is that it means more time for reading! As a general rule, it's not a good summer day unless I've spent a chunk of time curled up with a book. So here are some books I've liked that make me think of summer!
THE UNEXPECTED EVERYTHING by Morgan Matson: I read this last summer and absolutely adored it! It's everything I could ever want in a summery contemporary - romance, family, friends, dogs. It's definitely longer than your average summery book, but I flew through it so quickly that I barely noticed.

ALONG FOR THE RIDE by Sarah Dessen: There's no way I could make this list without including a Sarah Dessen book! And this is my favorite of hers that actually takes place during summer. I especially love Auden and her friends.

WHAT I THOUGHT WAS TRUE by Huntley Fitzpatrick: I loved this book so much more than I was expecting to! This book's island setting is perfectly summery, and the romance is pretty great, too.

HEIST SOCIETY by Ally Carter: For those who like contemporaries that are a little different from the rest of this list, I think Heist Society is a good summery choice. It has the fast-paced plot to pull you in, with just the right amount of lightheartedness that I associate with summer books.

EVERYTHING LEADS TO YOU by Nina LaCour: From what I've seen, lists of cute, summery romances are usually made up of books where the main characters are straight. I've talked about the lack of happy queer books before, but this is a really good one!

THE EVOLUTION OF CALPURNIA TATE by Jacqueline Kelly: The only book on this list that's not a contemporary of one sort or another. This is historical fiction, set in 1899 Texas. It's set over a longer span of time than just summer, but the summer part is a perfect fit for a hot day.

ON THE FENCE by Kasie West: I love Kasie West's contemporaries, and this is the one that seems the most summery to me. Charlie's a great main character, and this is a book you can absolutely fly through!

THE SACRED LIES OF MINNOW BLY by Stephanie Oakes: Summer usually makes me go for light contemporaries, but sometimes, I want something totally different, and I pick up a dark, creepy book.

WHEN WE COLLIDED by Emery Lord: A little less light than most of the other contemporaries on this list, but still generally falling into that category. Jonah and Vivi are both wonderful characters and the whole story focuses on one incredibly important summer.

LOVE & GELATO by Jenna Evans Welch: The setting makes this one stand out from the rest - Italy! If you like your summer reads to have a bit more adventure, I'd recommend this one. It has all the best parts of a contemporary, plus a unique setting.

What are some of your favorite summer reads? Do you usually go for contemporaries? Have you read any of the ones on this list? Tell me in the comments!

    1. They're all such great books! I'd definitely recommend Love & Gelato - I picked it up pretty much on a whim because I liked the idea of a book set in Italy and I devoured it in about a day.

Wow, it's been ages since I've done a most anticipated list! In case you were wondering, my excitement for upcoming books is a s high as ever. It was so hard narrowing this list down to just ten, but I think I figured out the ten books that I'm most excited for in the first half of next year! I have a good mix of sequels and standalones (but onl y one debut, so there won't b e a lo t of overlap wi th the de buts TTT in a few weeks). Here are some of the books that I just can't contain my excitement about : OUR OWN PRIVATE UNIVERSE by Robin Talley - January 31: I love Robin Talley, and this book sounds like it's going to be so good! And it's going to have so much intersectionality! And the colors on that cover are just so aesthetically pleasing. DREAMLAND BURNING by Jennifer Latham - February

Ten Books I Need More People to Love

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and Bookish. This week's theme: Top Ten Underrated/Hidden Gem Books You've Read in the Past Year or So. One of my favorite things to do is get other people to read books I love. That way, I can discuss the boo ks with them, and if I know their tastes well enough, I know I'm givin g them something that they'll love! Unfortunately, I can't do this with the entire world. And that means that there are books that I've really enjoyed t hat just aren't widely loved. Why ? I don't know. And that's why I spend so much time trying to get other people to read them. Here are ten books I've read some what recently that I think really deserve some m ore lo ve. IRON CAST by Destiny Soria: I'll never get tired of diverse books, I 'll never get tired of historical fiction, and I'll never get tired of positive female friendships. My Top Ten Books of 2016

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly f eature at The Broke and the Bookish . This week's theme: top ten books of 2016. A little less than a year ago, I started my blog by making a post of my top 10 favorite books of 2015 . And now here we are again! I've come so far in blogging , and it 's really amazing to be creating the same kind of post as my fi rst one again - but I'l l save the nostalgia for my blogo versary post later this week. Last year, all of the books on my list were also on my all-time favorites list. I didn't quite read ten all-time favorites this year, so I added a couple of five-star but not-quite-favorite books to this post. I also didn't include any rereads on this list - I reread quite a few favorite books this year, and that wouldn't be fair to the rest! But anyway, here are my ten favorite books that I read in 2016. 10. THUD! by Terry Pratchett (Discworld #34) I don't think it would really be a list of my favorite books from a ye
