Top Ten Friendship-to-Dating Ships

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and the Bookish. This week's theme: All About Romance Tropes!

Happy Valentine's Day! I just see this as the perfect opportunity to talk about romance in books, and this week's Top Ten Tuesday prompt made it even better. I love love stories where the characters are friends first, so these are some of my favorite books where that happens!

Wing and Aaron from THE HEARTBEATS OF WING JONES by Katherine Webber: I'm currently in the middle of reading this book for the second time in the span of a week, which should show you how much I love it. And WOW, does this book give a whole new meaning to slow-burn romance! It's a little infuriating, but so satisfying.

Charlie and Braden from ON THE FENCE by Kasie West: Every Kasie West couple is perfect - this is just the one that happens to fall into this trope category.

Paige and Max from THE START OF ME AND YOU by Emery Lord: Paige and Max are one of my favorite fictional couples ever, so of course they had to be on this list! They're just so perfect for each other!

Leah and Jefferson from WALK ON EARTH A STRANGER by Rae Carson: These two will be the death of me someday. I can't even begin to count the number of times that I had to stop reading for a minute and internally squeal about what was going on!

Ron and Hermione from HARRY POTTER by J.K. Rowling: This might be the ship that started my love for this trope. (Basically, everything in my reading life traces back to Harry Potter in one way or another.) And I just reread the series in December, so I got a refresher on exactly how perfect these two are for each other!

Kyle and Gideon from BEEN HERE ALL ALONG by Sandy Hall: This made me realize that there aren't nearly enough queer friendship-to-dating books! But this one is definitely adorable. And I loved that we got to see things from both perspectives!

Winter and Jacin from WINTER by Marissa Meyer: I'll admit that when I first read this book, these two characters definitely weren't my favorites. I'd loved the other main characters for so long that I never really gave these two a chance! But STARS ABOVE really changed my mind on that.

Anne and Gilbert from the ANNE OF GREEN GABLES series by L.M. Montgomery: Not just friends-to-dating - enemies-to-friends-to-dating! So you really get a good picture of how these two characters fit together throughout the series. They complement each other so well!

Anna and Étienne from ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS by Stephanie Perkins: I don't think this one is quite as great in this aspect because I really like when the two characters have been friends longer, but it's still pretty wonderful.

Fanny and Edmund from MANSFIELD PARK by Jane Austen: I just read Mansfield Park a couple of months ago, and these characters have already worked their way into my heart! Sure, their obliviousness can be infuriating sometimes, but I really loved their relationship.

What's your favorite romance trope? Do you like friendship-to-dating stories as much as I do? Tell me in the comments, and link me to your TTT posts!

  1. I love the friends to dating trope, so basically I have to read every book that's on this list. I sadly still have not read an Emery Lord book, so maybe I'll have to make The Start of Me and You to be the first book of hers I read. Ron and Hermione is definitely a classic friend to romance ship that I love! Great post!

    1. I'd have to say that Scarlet and Wolf are my favorite couple from The Lunar Chronicles, but I love them all so much! I really need to reread that series soon. I haven't read The Serpent King or Emmy & Oliver, but I really want to read both of them! I love fake dating stories, too, but I can only think of one or two that I've actually read. I need to read some more of those!

Wow, it's been ages since I've done a most anticipated list! In case you were wondering, my excitement for upcoming books is a s high as ever. Ten Books I Need More People to Love

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and Bookish. This week's theme: Top Ten Underrated/Hidden Gem Books You've Read in the Past Year or So. One of my favorite things to do is get other people to read books I love. That way, I can discuss the boo ks with them, and if I know their tastes well enough, I know I'm givin g them something that they'll love! Unfortunately, I can't do this with the entire world. And that means that there are books that I've really enjoyed t hat just aren't widely loved. Why ? I don't know. And that's why I spend so much time trying to get other people to read them. Here are ten books I've read some what recently that I think really deserve some m ore lo ve. IRON CAST by Destiny Soria: I'll never get tired of diverse books, I 'll never get tired of historical fiction, and I'll never get tired of positive female friendships. In Which I Consider My Ideal Post Length

I seem to be constantly going back and forth between having too many post ideas and not having enough. The thing is, though, that when I don't have a lot of ideas, it usually just means that I don't think I have enough to say about anything to actually make a post. Which poses an interesting question: how long do posts need to be? In particular, I'm thinking about discussion posts. I have a lot of bookish things I want to discuss, and discussion posts seem like one of the best ways to share my thoughts. But sometimes, my thoughts aren't fully-formed, or aren't that complex. I usually shy away from writing about those ideas because I don't think I have enough material to justify a post. But why don't I think I have enough? I've been a little behind on wr iting posts in advance, so it seem ed like I was running into th is question more and more often. And after a while of thinking about that, I had m y little breakthrough : I'm thinking a
