Underrated Books Gift Guide: If They Liked This...

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and the Bookish. This week's theme: holiday gift guide freebie!

I'm sure that every bookworm likes to get books for the holidays....just not the same books all the time. There are certain YA books that are hyped beyond belief, and I can easily imagine someone getting 4 copies of Divergent or Six of Crows.

There are so many amazing books out there - why not gift a book that goes a bit more under the radar? Sure, it might be a bit of a risk if you don't know that there are tens of thousands of people who've already loved it, but you might just find a hidden gem that your bookish friend will thank you for forever. (And, of course, you're more than welcome to use this as a guide for gifts to yourself.)

If they liked THE DIVINERS, get them IRON CAST
Why? Both revolve around a diverse group of people with powers in the 1920s (or nearly) solving some kind of mystery.

Why? They're both quick, happy contemporaries centered around queer guys that are also diverse in a bunch of other ways.

Why? They both take ageless concepts (like love and death) and turn them into characters, all against a historical backdrop.

If they liked MORE HAPPY THAN NOT, get them WILLFUL MACHINES
Why? Both are sci-fi books that revolve around interesting questions, and both have gay protagonists.

Why? Very similar (and hilarious) narration styles, and really great main characters. (And this goes for any Maureen Johnson book - I just chose what I think is most popular.)

If they liked HEIST SOCIETY, get them PRETENDING TO BE ERICA
Why? Heists! And characters who have spent their whole lives training for them.

If they liked THE RAVEN BOYS, get them THE ACCIDENT SEASON
Why? The amazing atmosphere! Mostly normal, but slightly creepy and incredibly intriguing.

If they liked THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS, get them LABYRINTH LOST
Why? Families with magic and a creepy land full of mysteries and excitement. And lots of fighting evil creatures!

If they liked PAPER TOWNS, get them THE LAND OF 10,000 MADONNAS
Why? A group of teenagers going on some kind of mission inspired by an absent friend, traveling and learning things about said friend along the way

If they liked LEVIATHAN, get them FRONT LINES
Why? Each imagines one of the World Wars with a twist, and they're both told from multiple perspectives.

Have you started buying holiday presents yet? Or do you tend to wait until the last minute? Was this helpful? Tell me in the comments!

Ten Books I Need More People to Love

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and Bookish. This week's theme: Top Ten Underrated/Hidden Gem Books You've Read in the Past Year or So. One of my favorite things to do is get other people to read books I love. That way, I can discuss the boo ks with them, and if I know their tastes well enough, I know I'm givin g them something that they'll love! Unfortunately, I can't do this with the entire world. And that means that there are books that I've really enjoyed t hat just aren't widely loved. Why ? I don't know. And that's why I spend so much time trying to get other people to read them. Here are ten books I've read some what recently that I think really deserve some m ore lo ve. My Top Ten Books of 2016

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly f eature at The Broke and the Bookish . This week's theme: top ten books of 2016. A little less than a year ago, I started my blog by making a post of my top 10 favorite books of 2015 . And now here we are again! I've come so far in blogging , and it 's really amazing to be creating the same kind of post as my fi rst one again - but I'l l save the nostalgia for my blogo versary post later this week. Last year, all of the books on my list were also on my all-time favorites list. I didn't quite read ten all-time favorites this year, so I added a couple of five-star but not-quite-favorite books to this post. I also didn't include any rereads on this list - I reread quite a few favorite books this year, and that wouldn't be fair to the rest! But anyway, here are my ten favorite books that I read in 2016. 10. THUD! by Terry Pratchett (Discworld #34) I don't think it would really be a list of my favorite books from a ye
