Ten Books I'm Grateful For

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and the Bookish. This week's theme is a Thanksgiving freebie!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It has the best balance of being important without being overwhelming, it's at the perfect time of year, and, of course, it has the best food. And I love the idea of the holiday: taking time to check back in with yourself and the world around you, looking for the things that help you be the best you can be and recognizing them.

I'm not usually all that vocal about what I'm grateful for, at least not all at once like at Thanksgiving. I generally opt for more of a quiet reflection. But sometimes, like now, I want to share. These are some books (and series) that have really changed my life for the better, and I owe so much to them. I'm so grateful for them, and I want to share that.

I'm grateful for DISCWORLD for showing me new ways to look at old problems, and for showing me that a bit of humor doesn't make a book any less serious.

I'm grateful for HAWKEYE: MY LIFE AS A WEAPON for introducing me to the world of comic books (and getting me absolutely hooked).

I'm grateful to CALVIN AND HOBBES for managing to be both fantastically new and wonderfully familiar every time I go back to it.

I'm grateful for CODE NAME VERITY for making me feel things that, before I read it, I didn't know books could make me feel.

I'm grateful for RICK RIORDAN'S MYTHOLOGY BOOKS (especially Percy Jackson) for getting me interested in mythology in such a fun way.

I'm grateful for SIMON VS THE HOMO SAPIENS AGENDA for never failing to make me happy. I reread this after the election and I was happier than I'd been for a week. It's magical.

I'm grateful for ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND for inspiring me to do impossible things.

I'm grateful to WHERE SHE WENT for giving me the kind of deep, instant connection to a book that I never knew I wanted.

I'm grateful for AMERICAN GIRL for starting my love of history, inspiring me to always try to learn more, and making me want to be the best person I can be.

And finally, I'm grateful for HARRY POTTER for being one of the biggest influences on my life. I could write a whole blog post about my gratefulness for this series, but I think I'll leave it at that.

What books are you grateful for? What's your favorite part of Thanksgiving? Tell me in the comments!

Ten Books I Wouldn't Mind Getting for Chanukah

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and the Bookish. This week's theme: Top Ten Books You Wouldn't Mind Santa Leaving Under Your Tree (with a slight alteration). I'm probably one of the easiest people to shop for. If you have the link to my Goodreads, you're basically guaranteed to get me something I'll like. (And even if you don't, I'm really not hard to please.) But, of course, there are some books that I'm more excited for than others. Here are ten that I would be absolutely thrilled to get as gifts this year. GEMINA by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff: The more I think about how great this book is going to be, the more I want it. And it's so pretty! P.S. I LIKE YOU by Kasie West: I love Kasie West! Her contemporaries are all so adorable - I can't believe I haven't read this one yet. THE SECRET KEEPERS by Trenton Lee Stewart: Finally, another book from the author of my favorite middle grade series ever! I...

Ten Books I Need More People to Love

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and Bookish. This week's theme: Top Ten Underrated/Hidden Gem Books You've Read in the Past Year or So. One of my favorite things to do is get other people to read books I love. That way, I can discuss the boo ks with them, and if I know their tastes well enough, I know I'm givin g them something that they'll love! Unfortunately, I can't do this with the entire world. And that means that there are books that I've really enjoyed t hat just aren't widely loved. Why ? I don't know. And that's why I spend so much time trying to get other people to read them. Here are ten books I've read some what recently that I think really deserve some m ore lo ve. IRON CAST by Destiny Soria: I'll never get tired of diverse books, I 'll never get tired of historical fiction, and I'll never get tired of positive female friendships. When you pu t those all together, they ma ke a book tha...

February Wrap-Up

I'm gonna be honest here : February's been rough. I'm surprised that I g ot a whole month's worth of posts up. I can 't really go into all the details right now, but the biggest thing is that I've had a migraine for almost two month s now and it's really getting in the way of me doing things. I've been to the doctor and gotten an MRI , but we're still w a iting on the results . So that's been messing with everything else in my life. Reading-wise, that means tha t I've been turning to audiobooks a lot. There are times that I literally don't have the energy to do anythi ng more than lie in the dark, but with audiobooks, I can get some amount of reading done even then. If you guys ha ve an y audiobook recomm endations, send them my way!   THE BOOKS PRODIGY by Marie Lu (Legend #2): I didn't like this one as much as LEGEND. I didn't think the plot was as interesting, and it was also pretty predictable. It set up the ...
