Gotta Read 'Em All - The Pokémon Go Book Tag

If you've looked at the internet anytime in the past month or so, you've probably noticed the existence of an app called Pokémon Go. Personally, I love it. I haven't made as much progress as everyone else - I'm only on level 11 - but it's so fun! And Aentee @ Read at Midnight had the brilliant idea of combining the app with books to make this tag. (She also created the wonderful graphics). I love doing book tags, so this was perfect for me.

Okay, I could obviously say Harry Potter, but a) that's a bit overused, even if it is true, and b) I'm pretty sure I actually started reading American Girl first. I unfortunately have no idea which American Girl series I read first, so I'm just going to go with the first in one of my personal favorites - Samantha. (Of course, my real favorite is Rebecca, but her books weren't released until I was about 11.)

There are a lot of classics that I like, but I'm going to have to go with Pride & Prejudice. Not even being annoyed at having it become required reading (which I wrote a blog post about) could make me really dislike this book, and I do look forward to eventually rereading it on my own terms.

I actually don't think this has ever happened to me! I might just be forgetting something, but I can't think of any examples.

Maybe I shouldn't be choosing a retelling for this, since it's automatically going to remind me of something else, but The Wrath & the Dawn had so many tropes and they were all done so well that I absolutely loved it. I could gush about this book for days, and if you have any interest in that, you can go read my full review.

I'm kind of embarrassed to have so many options for this one, but first prize goes to Les Misérables. I own a copy of this, so I can't even use the excuse that I'd need to go out and get it.

This question is probably aiming for a scary book, but I tend not to read really scary books. Code Name Verity, however, definitely kept me up at night just because I desperately needed to find out what happened! Once I got about 100 pages into it, I couldn't put it down.

There are so many good answers for this, but my top one is always going to have to be Ruby and Liam from The Darkest Minds trilogy. I love them both so much, and they're perfect together.

Wolf by Wolf is so fast-paced that I found myself holding my breath in anticipation so many times! And it's fast-paced in more ways than one, considering that it's literally about a race.
I will never get tired of seeing new Rick Riordan mythology books. I knew nothing about any kind mythology before reading his books, and they got me really interested in it! I should admit that I haven't even read all of the existing spin-offs - I think I'm three books behind, a number that will probably grow pretty quickly - but as long as they keep being good and hilarious, you won't see me complaining.

I could have used Wolf by Wolf again for this one, considering that I really had no idea whether I'd like it, but in the interest of variety, let's go with The Unexpected Everything. I'd read two Morgan Matson books before this, and I loved one and was pretty indifferent towards the other, so this one blowing me away was a pleasant surprise.

Red Queen. Hands down. And this is a weird mix, because it's so incredibly hyped and yet there are a bunch of people who don't like it all that much. I'm really surprised that I haven't read this yet, but I'm definitely going to get around to it soon and see what all the fuss is about!

I feel like I never shut up about this, but the illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone looks incredible and I want it.

There are so many of these, but my most immediate excitement is for Iron Cast. The premise sounds incredible, and I'm pretty much always up for historical fiction. I got an eARC for this one, too, so I'm definitely going to read it very soon!

Where do I even start? There are so many. The first few names that come to mind: Robin Talley, Alexandra Bracken, Jenny Han, Sarah J. Maas, Kasie West, and Emery Lord.

I am so ridiculously excited about the fact that As I Descended is only about two and a half weeks away! I have been looking forward to this book since summer 2014, and that was before I read Robin Talley's first book, Lies We Tell Ourselves, which became an instant favorite. I finally pre-ordered it this week and I AM SO READY TO READ IT!

Do you play Pokémon Go? Which team are you on? (Team Valor!) What's an upcoming release you're excited for? Anyone else with me on putting off Les Miz just because of its size? Tell me in the comments!

  1. I think I'm the only person on the internet who doesn't actually like Pokemon Go, whoops. I played it once with my cousins and I was so bored. I guess it's not for everyone though, right? Ruby and Liam are my favorite as well, at least in the first book. I felt like Ruby was just treating him really poorly in the last book, if that makes any sense. I also loved the American Girl books growing up, though I never read Samantha's. Felicity and Molly were my favorite. <3 I'm really excited for Crooked Kingdom, the sequel to Six of Crows, which I totally recommend if you haven't yet read it.

    1. Yeah, Pokemon Go definitely isn't for everyone. And I think it at least partially depends on where you are, too - there's pretty much nothing near my house, so unless I go somewhere, it gets boring really quickly. I agree about Ruby and Liam in the last book, but I also thought that they worked things out pretty well by the end! And I LOVED Felicity's and Molly's books too - Molly Saves the Day was one of my all-time favorites! I really want to read Six of Crows, but I want to read the Grisha trilogy first. I know I'm one of the last people to not have read it yet, but I'm going to start next month!

In Which I Consider My Ideal Post Length

I seem to be constantly going back and forth between having too many post ideas and not having enough. The thing is, though, that when I don't have a lot of ideas, it usually just means that I don't think I have enough to say about anything to actually make a post. Which poses an interesting question: how long do posts need to be? In particular, I'm thinking about discussion posts. I have a lot of bookish things I want to discuss, and discussion posts seem like one of the best ways to share my thoughts. But sometimes, my thoughts aren't fully-formed, or aren't that complex. I usually shy away from writing about those ideas because I don't think I have enough material to justify a post. But why don't I think I have enough? I've been a little behind on wr iting posts in advance, so it seem ed like I was running into th is question more and more often. And after a while of thinking about that, I had m y little breakthrough : I'm thinking a
