Blogging Goals

If you've been following my blog, you've probably noticed that I've been a bit of a sporadic blogger lately. I'm happy with the content I've been making, but I've been posting a lot less often and replying to comments pretty slowly. My life has been pretty hectic for the past couple of months, and it's going to get less busy soon, so I think I'll be able to get more on track then. But I want to be specific about what I want to do.

So I've decided to make a list of my top 5 blogging goals right now. I'm posting them here because it's my way of holding myself accountable and actually going through with them. I want to at least have made significant progress on all of these by the end of June. (I also have things I want to do with how my blog looks, but I have no idea how long those will take, so I didn't put them here.)

1. Always have at least one scheduled post. I am embarrassingly bad at this. I'll sometimes finish a post and schedule it to be published the next day, but there's a lot of time when I don't even have one post scheduled for the future. (I think my record was having two posts scheduled at a time. I felt way too proud of myself for that.) If I can actually get organized enough to schedule posts a bit more in advance, I won't feel as stressed while writing because I won't have to publish anything right away.

2. Write reviews quickly after reading the book. A couple of months ago, I wrote 'review to come' as my Goodreads review for a book I'd just finished. Now that's unfortunately become a habit, and by the time I get around to writing the review, I don't really remember enough of the book that it's a good review. A couple of times, I've abandoned doing full reviews on books that I really wanted to write reviews for because I just didn't think I could make them good enough. Even if I don't publish the reviews quickly after reading the book, I want to at least jot things down or make an outline of what I want to say so that I can post better reviews.

3. Spend more time on other people's blogs. I've had enough time to more or less keep up with the blogs that I already follow, but I really want to do more exploring and find new blogs! Reading blogs and watching BookTube videos are what inspired me to make a blog in the first place, and I don't want my own blog to get in the way of that.

4. Write more discussions. When I don't have as much time to write a post, I usually shy away from discussions because they take a lot more time and effort (and they're a little bit intimidating). But I love making them! Back in January, my Thoughts on Required Reading post was one of my first discussion posts and the first post I remember being really, really happy with. I want to write more posts like that! Of course, that means that I also have to come up with a lot more ideas for discussions. Which I don't currently have. I'll figure out that part as I go.

5. Make a bookstagram. Okay, so this doesn't technically have to do with this blog. (Or at least not a lot to do with it.) But it's something I've been wanting to do for a while. I don't particularly want to invest in a camera because I know nothing about cameras and I would honestly rather spend the money on books, but I now have a phone with a decent camera, so I can use that! I don't care much about my posts looking fancy and great, but I think it would be fun. I at least want to try it out.

I think that I'll write a reflection post at the end of June to see what progress I've made on these goals. Hopefully this post acts as a bit of motivation for me!

What are your blogging goals? What are some of your best organization tips? Tell me in the comments!

  1. These sound like epic goals, Clara! GO YOU! YOU GOT THIS!! And bookstagram is soooo fun, plus I know most bloggers only use their phone-cameras, so that's great! :D (I use a DSLR but that's because I don't have a phone hehe.)

Also omg I hear ya with scheduling posts. *hides* I rarely have any scheduled. I wish I did?? It'd be so much more relaxing not to be flapping about at the last minute (because I DO blog on a schedule, I just am not very organised ahead of time with it) so I honestly should try to make that more of a goal for me too!

Best of luck with these!! I think they're awesome goals . :D

    1. Thank you so much! I'm SUPER excited about bookstagram.

From the few times when I've had things together enough to schedule posts well in advance, I know that it's a LOT more relaxing. But blogging on a schedule is still a BIG step ahead of where I am so far. But small steps! Goals! I'm getting there!

  2. I love these goals! I basically have the same one, 'cause I too have been a sporadic blogger lately. I use my camera phone for bookstagram, and I like that better 'cause I can edit it with apps on my phone, so you definitely don't need to invest in a camera for it. I wish I had an organisation tip. I recently started making a monthly calendar so I know when I should start writing posts, but lately I've just ignored it XD Anyway, good luck! You can do it!

    1. Thanks for the encouragement! I'd never thought about getting photo editing apps on my phone, but that's a REALLY good idea! And so is the monthly calendar - I've started a couple of those, but I can never seem to stick with them. I'm still trying, though.

And that means that there are books that I've really enjoyed t hat just aren't widely loved. Why ? I don't know. And that's why I spend so much time trying to get other people to read them. In Which I Consider My Ideal Post Length

I seem to be constantly going back and forth between having too many post ideas and not having enough. The thing is, though, that when I don't have a lot of ideas, it usually just means that I don't think I have enough to say about anything to actually make a post. Which poses an interesting question: how long do posts need to be? In particular, I'm thinking about discussion posts. I have a lot of bookish things I want to discuss, and discussion posts seem like one of the best ways to share my thoughts. But sometimes, my thoughts aren't fully-formed, or aren't that complex. I usually shy away from writing about those ideas because I don't think I have enough material to justify a post. But why don't I think I have enough? I've been a little behind on wr iting posts in advance, so it seem ed like I was running into th is question more and more often. And after a while of thinking about that, I had m y little breakthrough : I'm thinking a
