Five Authors You Should Be Following On Twitter

In my last post, I mentioned that even though I haven't read any of Heidi Heilig's books yet, I follow her on Twitter and she's amazing. That got me thinking - a whole lot of the people I follow on Twitter are authors, and through Twitter, they regularly brighten up my day with more than just their books. So I decided to highlight a few of my favorites in this post! (And, in case you were wondering, here's my Twitter. I can't promise greatness matching any of these, but it exists.)
HEIDI HEILIG
Wow, I bet you never would have guessed that I'd include this one after reading the intro to my post! Anyway, her Twitter (like all of the ones here) is an awesome mixture of bookish goodness and activism, and following her was one of the best decisions I've made. (Although I'll admit that it also makes me think of my copy of THE GIRL FROM EVERYWHERE just sitting on my shelf, unread.) Also, her twitter icon has a cat in it, which just makes everything even better. A few recent highlights:

EMERY LORD
I've read all of Emery Lord's published books so far, and reading her Twitter just makes me even more sure that I'd read absolutely anything she wrote, in any format. (Can you tell I'm slightly desperate for THE NAMES THEY GAVE US?)  Her Twitter is one of the most relatable things I've ever had the pleasure of reading, and it makes me laugh. She doesn't post quite as much as a lot of the other authors that I follow, but that doesn't matter because everything that she posts is great. A few recent highlights:

MAUREEN JOHNSON
I'll admit, Maureen Johnson's Twitter can be a bit...strange, sometimes. But I mean that in the best way possible! Following her feels like joining a somewhat secret society - the kind where you all get jackets or something. She even has another Twitter account for her dog, which is really great and I love it. And her current pinned tweet is a picture of her with Lin-Manuel Miranda, so really, that's a good indicator of how great she is. A few other recent highlights:

LAURA SILVERMAN
Another author I haven't actually read any books by! (To be fair, GIRL OUT OF WATER isn't out yet.) Reading her tweets will get you excited about things. When she tweets about activism, she's going to inspire you to take action and call your representatives. When she tweets about books, especially when she livetweets what she's currently reading, she's going to make you want to read them, too. And then, for the perfect balance, there are some cute animal gifs mixed in there, too. A few recent highlights:

ANNIE CARDI
I've been waiting for another Annie Cardi book since I first read THE CHANCE YOU WON'T RETURN two and a half years ago (has it really been that long?), but her Twitter keeps me satisfied in the meantime. I feel like I'm repeating myself with why I love all of these accounts/people, but again: wonderful person tweeting a really great balance of bookish things, activism, funny things, and cute animals. Also, she sometimes tweets about running, which gets me motivated to do things that aren't Twitter. A few recent highlights:

Who are some of your favorite authors on Twitter? Do you even have a Twitter? How much time do you spend on it (read: am I spending too much time on it)? Tell me in the comments!

  1. One of my favorite things about Twitter is how adorable the friendships are between all of the authors I follow (Becky Albertalli, Adam Silvera, Alexandra Bracken, Susan Denard, etc). They're all so supportive and it makes me so happy

    1. Exactly! I can think of a few 2017 releases I found because I found the author's Twitter and instantly thought: YES, I need to read more by this person. And you're welcome!

  4. I really need to pay more attention to my Twitter feed. I'm really random about it. The only author I specifically know I love on Twitter (and, like, everywhere) is Adam Silvera. He's so much fun!

    1. I love Adam Silvera's Twitter, too! But it always reminds me of how desperately I need to read History is All You Left Me, which isn't good for my book budget.

  5. I too follow Heidi Heilig despite not having read her books! I enjoy learning about the issues that she comments on. I think my favourite to follow is JKR, but I don't follow that many authors on Twitter! I'll have to check these accounts out :D

That way, I can discuss the boo ks with them, and if I know their tastes well enough, I know I'm givin g them something that they'll love! Unfortunately, I can't do this with the entire world. And that means that there are books that I've really enjoyed t hat just aren't widely loved. Why ? I don't know. And that's why I spend so much time trying to get other people to read them. Here are ten books I've read some what recently that I think really deserve some m ore lo ve. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke a nd the Bookish . This week's theme : most an ti cipated reads for the first half of 2017. Wow, it's been ages since I've done a most anticipated list! In case you were wondering, my excitement for upcoming books is a s high as ever. It was so hard narrowing this list down to just ten, but I think I figured out the ten books that I'm most excited for in the first half of next year! I have a good mix of sequels and standalones (but onl y one debut, so there won't b e a lo t of overlap wi th the de buts TTT in a few weeks). Here are some of the books that I just can't contain my excitement about : OUR OWN PRIVATE UNIVERSE by Robin Talley - January 31: I love Robin Talley, and this book sounds like it's going to be so good! My Top Ten Books of 2016

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly f eature at The Broke and the Bookish . This week's theme: top ten books of 2016. A little less than a year ago, I started my blog by making a post of my top 10 favorite books of 2015 . And now here we are again! I've come so far in blogging , and it 's really amazing to be creating the same kind of post as my fi rst one again - but I'l l save the nostalgia for my blogo versary post later this week. Last year, all of the books on my list were also on my all-time favorites list. I didn't quite read ten all-time favorites this year, so I added a couple of five-star but not-quite-favorite books to this post. I also didn't include any rereads on this list - I reread quite a few favorite books this year, and that wouldn't be fair to the rest! But anyway, here are my ten favorite books that I read in 2016. 10. THUD! by Terry Pratchett (Discworld #34) I don't think it would really be a list of my favorite books from a ye
