My Accidental Hiatus

I haven't posted anything on this blog (or replied to comments, or read posts on other blogs - you get the picture) since the end of February. It's only been 11 days, but it seriously feels like SO MUCH LONGER. There are two main reasons for this:
  1. I had a bit of a family emergency, which involved me being away from home for a while and my mom taking my laptop to the other side of the country so that she could work. Things are fine now, but everything else got pushed aside for a while.
  2. I still have not mastered the art of scheduling posts.
These were definitely not ideal circumstances, but I'm kind of glad that I stepped away for a while. Things were starting to feel a bit frantic (see above: me not planning ahead enough to schedule posts), and I needed to take a step back for a while.

I have plans for this blog for the next few weeks, but it will probably take a while for me to get completely caught up. In the meantime, though, I'm very happy to be back, and I hope to be posting regularly again in the very near future!

Have you ever taken an accidental hiatus from your blog? Have I missed anything earth-shattering in the book blogging world in the last two weeks? Any tips for mastering the art of scheduled posts? Tell me in the comments!

  1. *waves* Welcome back from your hiatus!! Sometimes they ARE good...like just to regroup and rest up, right?! The only accidental hiatuses I've taken are when my blog has exploded or something horrifically scary. xD Which luckily hasn't happened since I moved to wordpress (*hugs wordpress*)
As for scheduling posts...I almost ALWAYS do because I like to post at the same time each night. But it's easy! You just write a post and...hit schedule?! :P

    1. *sees that I forgot to put a clarifying paragraph into my post* Oh, well. What I meant about scheduling posts is that I never really have posts planned out more than a couple of days in advance, and even that's rare for me. I need to organize things better.

I think this was a pretty good hiatus! I have lots of post ideas and plans, and I'm even MORE excited about everything now that I'm coming back after time away!

  2. Sometimes you need to just take a break, even if it's unplanned. Glad you're back, though!

    1. Thanks! I wasn't so sure in the middle of it, but looking back, the break was definitely a good idea.

  4. I think taking breaks is important. It really relaxes you and when you come back, it's like blogging for the first time again!

    1. Exactly! Except this time, it's without the slight terror of always feeling that you don't know what you're doing! (Okay, MOSTLY without that.)

Ten Books I Need More People to Love

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and Bookish. This week's theme: Top Ten Underrated/Hidden Gem Books You've Read in the Past Year or So. One of my favorite things to do is get other people to read books I love. That way, I can discuss the boo ks with them, and if I know their tastes well enough, I know I'm givin g them something that they'll love! Unfortunately, I can't do this with the entire world. And that means that there are books that I've really enjoyed t hat just aren't widely loved. Why ? I don't know. And that's why I spend so much time trying to get other people to read them. Here are ten books I've read some what recently that I think really deserve some m ore lo ve. IRON CAST by Destiny Soria: I'll never get tired of diverse books, I 'll never get tired of historical fiction, and I'll never get tired of positive female friendships. When you pu t those all together, they ma ke a book tha

In Which I Consider My Ideal Post Length

I seem to be constantly going back and forth between having too many post ideas and not having enough. The thing is, though, that when I don't have a lot of ideas, it usually just means that I don't think I have enough to say about anything to actually make a post. Which poses an interesting question: how long do posts need to be? In particular, I'm thinking about discussion posts. I have a lot of bookish things I want to discuss, and discussion posts seem like one of the best ways to share my thoughts. But sometimes, my thoughts aren't fully-formed, or aren't that complex. I usually shy away from writing about those ideas because I don't think I have enough material to justify a post. But why don't I think I have enough? I've been a little behind on wr iting posts in advance, so it seem ed like I was running into th is question more and more often. And after a while of thinking about that, I had m y little breakthrough : I'm thinking a
