March Library Mini-Haul

I already had way too many books checked out from the library this month, so I wasn't going to get any more. There were a few that were due, though, so I had to go back, and I really wasn't planning on getting any books when I went but we all know where this is going, don't we.

The good news is that I got only four books! That seems manageable! Even if I did already have a dozen out and all the ones I got are at least 500 pages each. I'll get to them soon.

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (Illuminae #1): Funny coincidence - I just made a comment on a post by Liz @ Out of Coffee, Out of Mind saying that whenever she posted about how much she loves Illuminae, it made me want to read it even more, but that it was never at the library when I went. And guess what was at the library today. I took it as a sign and grabbed the book. It's not a book I would normally pick up, but I've heard so many good things that I really wanted to give it a try.

The Dark Days Club by Alison Goodman (Lady Helen #1): This one wasn't even on my to-read list, but it was too good to pass up. I could have gone either way just based on the blurb, but I read the first couple of pages while I was at the library and I knew I had to read it. I know very little about this, so I'm looking forward to seeing what it's about!

The Ask and the AnswerCristin Terrill

The Ask and the Answer and Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness (Chaos Walking #2-3): I read the first book in this series, The Knife of Never Letting Go, last summer. I was completely unimpressed and ready to leave the series unfinished with no regrets...and then the ending happened and I NEEDED to know what happened next. From what I know, I think these books are going in a very interesting direction, and I'm very excited that I was able to get both from the library at the same time!

Do you find it easier to resist getting books at the library than I do? Can you share your secrets about not having an overwhelming library TBR? Which of these should I read first? Tell me in the comments!

  1. YOU GOT ILLUMINAE!!! I'm so glad you were able to get your hands on it, and I hope you enjoy it! :D

Also, sad face that you didn't like The Knife of Never Letting Go that much. Oh well, I guess not every book is for everyone, but I do hope you enjoy the sequels. :)

I would recommend reading Illuminae first because it's amazing and gorgeous and just, yeah. *nods*

I'm really bad when I go to the library. I always get an enormous stack and then get distracted by other books on my own shelves, so I always have to renew at least a few of the books. I have a few on my TBR, but until I have a book order come in in week or two, my short term TBR is actually rather manageable. In fact, it's getting a little small, which isn't fun. I don't like having a short TBR. :P

    1. I DID GET ILLUMINAE!! I'm SO excited. I need to read the books that are going to be due soon first, so I probably won't get to it for a few weeks :(

I don't know what it was about The Knife of Never Letting Go, but I wasn't really invested until the last 100 pages or so, at which point I cared way too much. Hopefully the sequels are more like that ending than the rest of the book! (Although I'm not sure I can take too many more things like that ending. That was INTENSE.)

I always bring a bag to the library because I used to have enormous stacks and it just got too much for me to handle. And there's nothing bad about renewing books, either - I can't remember the last time I finished all my library books before they were due. I also can't remember the last time I had a short TBR, but I can imagine it wouldn't be too fun. Good thing that book order will be in pretty soon, then!

Wow, it's been ages since I've done a most anticipated list! In case you were wondering, my excitement for upcoming books is a s high as ever. It was so hard narrowing this list down to just ten, but I think I figured out the ten books that I'm most excited for in the first half of next year! I have a good mix of sequels and standalones (but onl y one debut, so there won't b e a lo t of overlap wi th the de buts TTT in a few weeks). Here are some of the books that I just can't contain my excitement about : OUR OWN PRIVATE UNIVERSE by Robin Talley - January 31: I love Robin Talley, and this book sounds like it's going to be so good! And it's going to have so much intersectionality! And the colors on that cover are just so aesthetically pleasing. DREAMLAND BURNING by Jennifer Latham - February

Ten Books I Need More People to Love

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and Bookish. This week's theme: Top Ten Underrated/Hidden Gem Books You've Read in the Past Year or So. One of my favorite things to do is get other people to read books I love. That way, I can discuss the boo ks with them, and if I know their tastes well enough, I know I'm givin g them something that they'll love! Unfortunately, I can't do this with the entire world. And that means that there are books that I've really enjoyed t hat just aren't widely loved. Why ? I don't know. And that's why I spend so much time trying to get other people to read them. Here are ten books I've read some what recently that I think really deserve some m ore lo ve. IRON CAST by Destiny Soria: I'll never get tired of diverse books, I 'll never get tired of historical fiction, and I'll never get tired of positive female friendships. When you pu t those all together, they ma ke a book tha

In Which I Consider My Ideal Post Length

I seem to be constantly going back and forth between having too many post ideas and not having enough. The thing is, though, that when I don't have a lot of ideas, it usually just means that I don't think I have enough to say about anything to actually make a post. Which poses an interesting question: how long do posts need to be? In particular, I'm thinking about discussion posts. I have a lot of bookish things I want to discuss, and discussion posts seem like one of the best ways to share my thoughts. But sometimes, my thoughts aren't fully-formed, or aren't that complex. I usually shy away from writing about those ideas because I don't think I have enough material to justify a post. But why don't I think I have enough? I've been a little behind on wr iting posts in advance, so it seem ed like I was running into th is question more and more often. And after a while of thinking about that, I had m y little breakthrough : I'm thinking a
