Get to Know Me Tag

I've been thinking about doing a post like this for a while, but I couldn't think of a good way to do it. So when I saw the Get to Know Me Tag on Opal's blog...I stole it. Though she did tag anyone who wanted to do it, so I suppose it's not quite stealing. So, in case you want to know more about me, here you go!

Vital Stats:
Name: Clara
Nicknames: None. Clara doesn't lend itself well to nicknames.
Birthday: May 24th
Place of birth: California, USA
Star Sign: Gemini
Occupation: High school student, occasional math tutor

Appearance:
Hair color: Brown - reddish in the summer, dark in the winter
Hair length: Almost halfway down my back
Eye color: Blue
Best feature: Hair
Braces: I used to have Invisalign, but now I just have a retainer
Piercings: hahaha NO. I am TERRIFIED of needles, so that's not happening.
Tattoos: See above. No way.
Righty or lefty: Righty

Firsts:
First best friend: Heather, in first grade
Award: Probably some kind of X number of days of consecutive piano practice thing. Maybe 100 days?
Sport: Soccer.
Real holiday: Either Chanukah or Thanksgiving.
Concert: No clue.

Favorites:
Film: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
TV show: AGENT CARTER!
Color: At the moment, blue. It's been changing surprisingly often.
Song: Another one that changes all the time, but definitely House of Memories by Panic! at the Disco.

Magazine: Smithsonian
Shoes: Boots or TOMS

Currently:
Feeling: Hungry. And pretty exhausted - today's been quite the roller coaster.

Thinking about: All of the terrifyingly huge choices I have to make in the next few months.
Watching: Agent Carter on TV (but I'm unfortunately behind), Parks & Rec on Netflix

Want to be married: Not particularly.
Careers in mind: Good question. We'll see.
Where do you want to live: Probably somewhere on the East Coast, but not in a big city.

Do you believe in:
God: In some way, yes.
Miracles: If people are looking for them.
Love at first sight: Absolutely not.
Ghosts: Not really, but not an emphatic no.
Aliens: In some sense, yes.
Soul mates: Not in the "one person who you're romantically destined to be with forever" sense, no, but I believe in people who just get each other in some unexplainable way.
Heaven: Still thinking about this one.
Hell: Same as above.
Kissing on the first date: Not personally.
Yourself: Not as consistently as I'd like to.

What about you? Introduce yourself! What's your favorite book? What are you thinking about? Are you as terrified of needles as I am? Tell me in the comments!

  1. I'm with you on the whole marriage and kids thing--I'm just not interested. :P

I've never actually been to Cheesecake Factory before, but I've heard so many good things about it, I'll have to see if there's one near where I live.

It was really fun to read all your answers! Thanks for sharing! :)

    1. Yeah, there's just so many things I want to do in my life that just don't involve marriage and kids.

Cheesecake Factory is WONDERFUL! The menu is so huge that there's pretty much something for everyone. All the portions are so huge that you order dinner one day and have lunch for the next two. And the fudge cake is incredible.

  2. OH MY GOODNESS YOU LIKE PARKS AND REC??? You are my new best friend. Also, I watched the first episode of Agent Carter and didn't particularly love it? Does it get better? I love the idea of it but I just didn't love the first episode.

It was great to read more about you!

    1. I LOVE Parks & Rec! I'm watching it slowly because I'm on Season 5 now and I DON'T WANT IT TO END! I personally loved Agent Carter from the beginning, but I think it gets even better. I won't pretend it's perfect - there are a couple of slower episodes here and there - but I'd say it's definitely worth giving a try if there were parts of the first episode that you liked!

Ten Books I Need More People to Love

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and Bookish. This week's theme: Top Ten Underrated/Hidden Gem Books You've Read in the Past Year or So. One of my favorite things to do is get other people to read books I love. That way, I can discuss the boo ks with them, and if I know their tastes well enough, I know I'm givin g them something that they'll love! Unfortunately, I can't do this with the entire world. And that means that there are books that I've really enjoyed t hat just aren't widely loved. Why ? I don't know. And that's why I spend so much time trying to get other people to read them. Here are ten books I've read some what recently that I think really deserve some m ore lo ve. IRON CAST by Destiny Soria: I'll never get tired of diverse books, I 'll never get tired of historical fiction, and I'll never get tired of positive female friendships. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke a nd the Bookish . This week's theme : most an ti cipated reads for the first half of 2017. Wow, it's been ages since I've done a most anticipated list! In case you were wondering, my excitement for upcoming books is a s high as ever. It was so hard narrowing this list down to just ten, but I think I figured out the ten books that I'm most excited for in the first half of next year! I have a good mix of sequels and standalones (but onl y one debut, so there won't b e a lo t of overlap wi th the de buts TTT in a few weeks). Here are some of the books that I just can't contain my excitement about : OUR OWN PRIVATE UNIVERSE by Robin Talley - January 31: I love Robin Talley, and this book sounds like it's going to be so good! And it's going to have so much intersectionality! And the colors on that cover are just so aesthetically pleasing. DREAMLAND BURNING by Jennifer Latham - February

My Top Ten Books of 2016

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly f eature at The Broke and the Bookish . This week's theme: top ten books of 2016. A little less than a year ago, I started my blog by making a post of my top 10 favorite books of 2015 . And now here we are again! I've come so far in blogging , and it 's really amazing to be creating the same kind of post as my fi rst one again - but I'l l save the nostalgia for my blogo versary post later this week. Last year, all of the books on my list were also on my all-time favorites list. I didn't quite read ten all-time favorites this year, so I added a couple of five-star but not-quite-favorite books to this post. I also didn't include any rereads on this list - I reread quite a few favorite books this year, and that wouldn't be fair to the rest! But anyway, here are my ten favorite books that I read in 2016. 10. THUD! by Terry Pratchett (Discworld #34) I don't think it would really be a list of my favorite books from a ye
