Ten Characters I'm Naming My Future Cats After

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and the Bookish. This week's theme: Ten Characters I'd Name a Child/Dog/Cat/Car/Etc. After.

It's pretty obvious that someday, I'm going to be a crazy cat lady. I'm probably not going to have more than about three cats at once, because even my craziness has its limits, but I love cats. And when I inevitably need names for those cats, where better to turn than books? I don't have to make up any names - authors have done that for me!

Now, not all of my cats are going to be named after fictional characters - my cat now is named Mozart, and I'm pretty sure that my next cat will be named Tchaikovsky, so I have a bit of a composer theme going on, too. But I'm sure I'll have enough cats throughout my life to do both! Thanks to Sky @ Sky's Reading Corner for helping me brainstorm some of these and narrow them down.

And since everyone loves looking at cute cat pictures, I've included one ADORABLE cat for each name. And now I'm sad because cats aren't allowed in dorms and I miss having a cat. Honestly, when I get out of college, I'll probably get about five cats at once just because I've been deprived for so long! Anyway, onto the names! 

1. Crookshanks - How could I possibly have a literary cat and have it not be named after the first fictional cat I loved? And if I have a cat named Crookshanks, I'm that much closer to being Hermione Granger, which is the ultimate goal, really.

2. Gatsby - Or maybe...Catsby? I know, pretty awful, but I think it's cute.

3. Katsa - I know, another cat-related name. I promise I'm more creative than this. But again, such a cute name! And imagine if she has mismatching eyes like Katsa! Although maybe naming a cat after a character who could very easily kill me isn't the best idea...

4. Sansa - Really, any Game of Thrones name is a great name for a cat. But Sansa will always be my favorite, so of course I'm naming a cat after her.

5. Queenie - I've never met a cat who didn't think that she was queen of the world, so why not give her the name to match?

6. Cinder - This would be perfect for a little grey cat!

7. Karou - Too bad there aren't actual blue cats to match Karou's magically blue hair. But even so, Karou is a pretty great cat name!


8. Luna - This is very appropriate, since I can absolutely see Luna Lovegood as a crazy cat lady.

 9. Feyre - Nothing cat-specific about this one, but it's a really pretty name!


10. Laia - Again, nothing cat-specific, but I can totally see a cat named Laia with colors kind of like on the cover of the book!

    We've decided on a name for our new little girl - Pippin! Lord of the Rings inspired, obviously. She's so adorable. We still haven't decided on the boy name. Bouncing back and forth between Percy (Jackson) and Potter (obvious).

      Pippin is PERFECT! As for the boy, I vote for Potter, just because it's more obvious (and who doesn't like Harry Potter?), but they're both great.

      My dad really wanted to name him Peter (Tchaikovsky) but I would rather just name him Tchai

      When I have my next cat (who I've already decided is going to be Tchaikovsky/Tchai) I'll be sure to send you plenty of pictures :)

    Those cats are so cute! How is it possible for a living creature to be that adorable?! I love cats so much (if you couldn't tell...)! <3 Cinder and Feyre would be such cute cat names, I feel like most Marissa Meyer and Sarah J. Maas characters have great names to use for cats. Ha!

      I love cats too! And yeah, the more I think about it, all Sarah J. Mass character names are PERFECT for cats. Marissa Meyer characters too...except maybe Wolf. I just can't imagine a cat named Wolf.

Thoughts on Required Reading

This blog post is brought to you by Pride and Prejudice and my AP Lit class. I've been thinking a lot about required reading, probably because I'm having to do so much of it. School comes with many types of required reading. Today, I won't be talking about reading excerpts from textbooks on various subjects, because I think everyone agrees that unless the subject is of particular interest, those readings are boring at best and painful at worst. Ten Books I Need More People to Love

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature at The Broke and Bookish. This week's theme: Top Ten Underrated/Hidden Gem Books You've Read in the Past Year or So. One of my favorite things to do is get other people to read books I love. My Top Ten Books of 2016

A little less than a year ago, I started my blog by making a post of my top 10 favorite books of 2015 . And now here we are again! I've come so far in blogging , and it 's really amazing to be creating the same kind of post as my fi rst one again - but I'l l save the nostalgia for my blogo versary post later this week.
